This Sunday 1st May we will be celebrating May Day with a day trip to the Blue Mountains. Yay!!
This is not a public transport friendly outing, it involves driving or carpooling. Anyone who can offer a lift
and anyone who needs one please let me know your starting location and Ill try and match passengers
with drivers.
To start the day in a coordinated fashion I propose that all drivers aim to rendezvous at The Fruit Bowl in
Bilpin by 9:30am. Depending on traffic and your starting point this is a drive of about 75-90 minutes. There
is ample opportunity here to stretch your legs, buy a coffee, or some snacks or fruit. Once we are all
assembled and refreshed, we can proceed in convoy to the Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens, which is
about another 15 minutes down the road.
Our main port of call will be the Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens at Mt Tomah. Entry to the Botanic
Gardens by donation and there is no fee for photography – provided its not for commercial purposes. So,
no selling your best photos of the day!! There is a licensed kiosk on site, though Ive never been. There are
picnic spots, though there are some showers forecast for the day. Alternatively, The Hive is only a four-
minute drive back along The Bells Line of Road.
Depending on the time, weather, and our inclinations, we may continue on to Mt Wilson for another bout
of autumn colours. There is also the option of getting some scenic shots from a drive down the (unsealed)
Mt Bank Road, which is about 10 minutes’ drive west of the Botanic Gardens.
So pack up your camera bag, perhaps a thermos and a jumper, and come only on Sunday and have a day
out of Sydney for a change weve not had a lot of chance to do that for the last couple of years! Please
RSVP (so I know when our full convoy has arrived at The Fruit Bowl) and let me know if you can offer or
need a lift. I can fit up to 3 passengers in my car and Ben can fit up to 6 passengers in his van
