First meeting of 2018

The new year officially kicked off for us this week with our first meeting of 2018. It was a show and tell evening with a number of members presenting. We started off with a welcome from our president who gave us a run down of the meetings and events we have to look forward to this year. Ben spoke about the portfolio and encouraged everyone to join in with that this year – members who have taken part in previous years have expressed how worthwhile it is. If you are undecided have a chat with Ben, Clair, Jason, Deb, Ron, Amanda, Sharon, Monica, Ashley or Aldo who are just some of the members who have taken part in the past and can share their experience and possibly show you their portfolios.

Brian spoke about our new logo and his inspiration for the design. Clair spoke about our new look website as well as our social media: facebook – https://www.facebook.com/InnerWestPhoto here we list all our events, so if you click you are going, you will receive reminders of the event closer to the time and be alerted if there are new posts in the event. We also post items that may be of interest to members such as upcoming exhibitions etc. If you find posts that you think may be of interest to other members just post to our page and we will share the post. We are also on instagram – https://www.instagram.com/innerwestphoto/ if you are on instagram do follow @innerwestphoto and tag #innerwestphoto – there are number of us on there now and we can help you get started if you are unsure but interested. Finally we are also on flickr with a group for members to post images they would like to share – https://www.flickr.com/groups/iwps/pool/ Only members can join the flickr group, so if you are a member then click the button to join and your request will be accepted, alternatively if you let Clair know your flickr name then she can send you an invite to join via flickr – note that you need to have a flickr account before you can join the flickr group. If you need a hand with this then we can help you.

Pat brought in a blast from the past and showed us his collection of colour slides and the technology he has to view them. It’s really interesting to see how technology has changed in such a short space of time.

Ashley brought in his lensbaby, very cool to see how it operates, quite unlike other lenses! He also showed us a selection of images taken with it which show the tilt shift effect the lens produces.

Finally, Jason showed us his abandoned bike photo project, which sparked off an interesting discussion about human nature.

We had a good turn out, so thank you to everyone who came along for our first meeting, including a number of visitors. Hopefully everyone had a good night and will be back to enjoy the next meeting!
